A Man With Many Honors
George Hunt, who has been in the auction business for 25 years, received a Presidential Citation at the Auctioneers Association of Maryland (AAM) 2004 Winter Conference. He was recognized for his “longtime support and leadership in the AAM’s Make-A-Wish Foundation Fund Raising, membership drives, and hosting the 2004 Winter Conference Fund Raising Auction.” But this isn’t the first time that George has been recognized by the AAM. Other honors include:
· Member of the Hall of Fame
· Auctioneer of the Year
· Bid Calling Champion
· Presidential Citation for bringing in the most new members
· He was even recognized for being the “Greatest Tale Teller”
George has a strong passion for the auction industry and for being involved in Auctioneer Associations such as the AAM and NAA. Over the past 25 years, he has brought in 30 new members to the AAM and enjoys working with other auctioneers to advance the auction industry’s professional image.
As a boy, George had many aspirations and is proud to say that he achieved them all. Before becoming an auctioneer, he was in minor league baseball, was the owner/operator of a restaurant/bartending business and was a DC Police Officer. Working as an auctioneer is very rewarding because he enjoys helping others and many people entrust auctioneers and their ability to help them.
The Make-A-Wish Fundraising effort began in 1999 with the combined efforts of George Hunt and Phil Gregory. Since then, AAM as a whole has raised approximately $250,000. In 2003, AAM raised $45,000 for Make-A-Wish and $30,000 of that total was raised at George Hunt’s place. George was “very proud and gratified” to receive the recognition for all of his efforts and added that it’s the efforts of all who have worked together these past 5 years that has made the difference. He also stated that he is “committed to the fellowship, communication, understanding, togetherness, and excellence of all auctioneers.” |
